Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Program at Yorkshire International School

At Yorkshire International School, our Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Program is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for young learners, rooted in the principles of UNESCO and UNICEF guidelines. We believe that the early years are critical in laying the foundation for lifelong learning and holistic development.

Guided by the global frameworks of UNESCO and UNICEF, our ECCD program emphasizes the following:

  • Holistic Development:
    Fostering the physical, emotional, cognitive, Cultural, and social growth of children in a safe and supportive national cultural setting.

  • Child-Centered Approach:
    Ensuring that learning experiences are personalized to the unique needs and interests of each child, promoting creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Inclusive Education:
    Committed to providing equitable learning opportunities for all children, regardless of background, ability, or socio-economic status, in line with UNESCO’s mission of inclusive education.

  • Parental Involvement:
    Engaging parents as key partners in their child's development, as advocated by UNICEF’s child-focused approach.

  • Play-Based Learning:
    Encouraging learning through structured and free play, helping children develop language, social skills, and motor abilities in a natural and enjoyable way.

  • The Four Sublime Qualities (Brahma Viharas) Developing virtuous conduct based on the Four Sublime Qualities (Brahma Viharas) the highest virtues that one can cultivate for the welfare of oneself and others.

Loving-Kindness (Metta) is the unconditional and boundless love extended to all living beings the attitude of unconditioned friendliness, irrespective of any differences.

Compassion (Karuna) is empathy, concern for those who are suffering, and willingness to help in need without any hope in return.

Sympathetic Joy or Altruistic Joy (Mudita) refers to the ability to feel genuine joy and happiness for others' success and well-being. It is the opposite of envy and encourages us to celebrate the achievements and good fortune of others, leading to greater interpersonal harmony.

Equanimity (Upekkha) is the mental balance and calmness that arises from understanding the constantly changing nature of everything including life. It enables one to remain peaceful and unaffected by life's ups and downs, cultivating inner stability and unbiased compassion for all beings.
